These ceramic charms are made by shaping and bisque firing, then painting them with traditional gosu (cobalt blue pigment), glazing and firing, and finally layering gold paint and firing again. They are finished after three firings. Because Kana Abe does all the shaping and painting by hand, each piece has a slightly different color and pattern. The deep blue color that comes from the firing of the traditional gosu pigment has a warmth that only handmade items can have.
